Primer Applications
Application
Bitumen Primer may be applied by brush or roller. The applied film must be allowed to dry before being over laid with any waterproofing treatment so as to avoid solvent entrapment. The primer coat is a key to good surface preparation for all waterproofing products as it makes the surface compatible with the waterproofing layer being applied above it. Our bitumen primer is the most affordable and high-quality products that give good coverage and provide strong adhesion to surface for APP membranes as well as liquid membranes. Primer is a low viscosity bituminous solution. It is highly penetrative and has good adhesion to most surfaces.
Primer consists of the bituminous black paint range used especially in industrial environments, they can be applied on both clean and dry, as well as damp surfaces, especially those in metal.
Instructions for Application

Surface Preparation
Ensure that the surface to be treated is dry and sound, free of loose, dusting or flaking particles and free from contaminants such as grease and fungus. Defects such as cracks, broken mortar joints, etc. are to be repaired prior to primer application.

Cleaning
Primer can be removed from equipment and tools with any suitable solvent such as gasoline or kerosene.

Health & Safety
Personnel should wear protective masks, gloves, and goggles during application. Do not smoke and keep away from sources of ignition. This product contains a maximum of 424g/L VOC.

Precautions
Bitumen Primer contains a volatile solvent and has a low flashpoint. Care must be taken to ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the working lace. Fires and naked flames should be kept at a distance. Do not apply if the temperature is below 5°C.

Coverage
Approximate rate: 0.2 – 0.3 kg/m2. The exact rate will depend upon the porosity or smoothness of the surface.

Storage
Store in a dry and shaded area in original packing. The container should be kept covered while working in order to prevent the evaporation of the solvent.
How To Use
- Thoroughly clean surface to be treated.
- Surface to be treated must be completely free of water.
- On bare metal, a rust-inhibiting product, such as a red oxide or zinc phosphate, should be applied and allowed to harden prior to application.
- Bitumen primer is supplied ready for use.
- Apply a thin coat by brush, roller spray and avoid pooling.
- The primer should extend at least 75mm beyond the area to be waterproofed.
- Leave to dry for 3-6 hours.
Most Suited For:
- Concrete roofs and floors.
- Cementitious screeds/ renders.
- Bitumen felt.
- Mastic asphalt.
- Weathered corrugated iron and steel.
- Priming of metal, timber, clay or cement bricks, and other porous and non-porous surfaces
